Description:
Gambier is home to Protonaria, which are multi-celled creatures that ingest and co-opt genetic material from their meals. In this way, when food is scarce, they eat plants and develop chloroplasts so they can produce their own food. When Gambier's orbit places a dust cloud between it and the sun, the Protonaria live off scavenger bacteria who themselves live off the dying plants.
Protonaria were in great demand in the 3010's as a novelty item. People would raise them in an aquarium and feed them virus-laden solutions. The different viruses would contain different genes for coloration, including lucifrace, so a tank of Protonaria would be a multi-colored, swirling mass that could even glow in the dark.
The planet's rich Ace High Continent, is governed by the Duke of Parma, who is also a Count on Gambier.
